Youtube Hacked: Popups Claimed Justin Bieber Died In Car Crash
Youtube have fixed a security flaw that allowed users to embed fake pop up messages into their video pages.
Hackers places code in the comments section and the pop ups would appear when the video played.
One pop up claimed that Canadian singer Justin Bieber had died in a car accident.
Google said it had fixed the problem in just two hours.
A spokesperson said: “We took swift action to fix a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability on youtube.com.
“Comments were temporarily hidden by default within an hour, and we released a complete fix for the issue in about two hours.”
Graham Cluley of security firm Sophos told the BBC that “The thing with a cross-site scripting attack is that it will appear that it is a message being posted by that website, which gives it a certain legitimacy.
“It could be used to show a message that tells you to update your password; it could link to a malicious website; or it could attempt to phish you.”
