Three Major players of United States Injured for 2010 Football World Cup
A few major defenders of United States, Oguchi Onyewu, Jay DeMerit and Carlos Bocanegra are suffering from injury before the upcoming 2010 Football World Cup South Africa. In the first game in Group C, they have to face England. The match will be held on 12th June, 2010.
In Germany, the team captain, Bocanegra had undergone sports hernia surgery. DeMerit also has severe abdominal strain. Because of serious injury in the left knee, Onyewu was unable to play. The upcoming matches of United States against Czech Republic and Turkey are creating a huge rage among the coaching staff and players. On 5th June, there will be friendly matches against Australia.
During the final day of training camp, Onyewu stated, “I don’t think the games are any rougher than anybody knows. There will be injuries, you know that leading up to this.”
According to the national coach, Bob Bradley, Bocanegra had underwent surgery two weeks ago. The player has recently turned 31 and expecting to be in the line-up in Hartford. He said, “I don’’t think it’s a big issue. I thought it would be best to get the little procedure done as soon as possible. I was running three days after. It’s a 15-to-20 minute procedure. There was no use to keep going and going when there was pain.”
