72 Bodies Found In Mexico After Shoot-Out With Drugs Cartel

Troops in Mexico have uncovered a mass grave containing 72 bodies, following a shoot-out in the North of the country.

The corpses were found near San Fernando in Tamaulipas state and are thought to have died as a result of drug related violence.

The discovery was made after a shoot-out with a suspected drug gang in which three gunmen and one soldier was killed.

The mass grave appears to be among the biggest ever found in Mexico, where almost 30,000 people have been killed in drug related violence in the last four years.

Authorities were tipped off when a man arrived injured at a navy checkpoint claiming he’d been attacked by the drug cartel. Navy troops launched an aerial attack on the location and made one arrest.

A search of the site revealed the dead bodies as well as caches of weapons and ammunition.

A navy statement condemned the “barbarous acts committed by criminal organisations”.

“Society as a whole should condemn these type of acts, which illustrate the absolute necessity to continue fighting crime with all rigour,” the statement added.
